El Sol is a custom typeface designed by Oscar Yáñez based on his redesign of the masthead for the newspaper El Sol de México, which belongs to OEM (Organización Editorial Mexicana), the largest news hub in Latin America. The typeface was commissioned by creative director Oscar Santiago, who redesigned the newspaper and requested a masthead redesign first.

Following this redesign, it was necessary to adjust the mastheads for the 28 newspapers derived from it, newspapers throughout all the nation, all linked to El Sol de México.
